The Versatile Blogger Award

versatileblogger I have to say I had a terrific day. Yesterday in 109 degree weather the power went out, so that of course meant no air conditioning. After several miserable hours the power finally came back on around 12:30am but it was still difficult to go to sleep therefore I was NOT looking forward to work in the morning.

Well, I woke up and saw I had a voicemail from my lovely boss and I listened to it still half asleep and discovered that school was canceled because of the previous day’s power outage! I didn’t have to go in to work!!!

I simply didn’t think my day could get any better, but it did! After a cool shower and breakfast I logged on to my favorite website to check out the blogging community. Low and behold I found out that I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger award by the oh so lovely Alyssa @ The Knee Deep Life. This blogger is incredibly talented and witty. Her blog is about crossing items off her bucket list and it is an enjoyment to read. Her posts inspire me to be active in life from the big things like sky diving to the little things like staying up all night. Please check out her blog, I beg of you! You’ll be absolutely enchanted!

Thank you so much Aylssa. You are such an inspiring person and I look forward to reading your posts everyday (thank goodness you’re back from you’re two hiatus) so it’s very flattering that you consider my blog award worthy. Congratulations yourself on the nomination I can’t wait to see how you’re blog further develops!

According to the rules that go along with acceptance of the award I must nominate 15 deserving bloggers and reveal 7 facts about me that you didn’t already know. (Yikes).

My nominees are as follows (just to be fair I wanted to nominate new people, so to my nominees of the Liebster award please know that I absolutely adore your blogs I’m simply trying to shine light on other blogs this time):

  • Kayla @ The Thousand Lives— her passion for books shines through every post
  • Suni @ Getting Rid of Boredom— for doing a thorough job at keeping boredom at bay
  • Shelf-Made Girl— She keeps her blog light with her humor and will make an excellent English teacher
  • Katy @ A Blighted One— she just started a really cool feature in which guest bloggers share their stories of who influenced them to read, and you can still sign up to share yours
  • Mini @ The Skeptical Reader— for keeping her blog eclectic
  • Jessie @ The Word Nerd— for thought-provoking reviews
  • Lifeofafemalebibliophile— for mixing the informative with personal reflection like a true pro

I know that’s only half but apparently I follow many blogs that do not like to accept awards so I had to delete many from the list. I hope I’m not thrown in blogger jail for this. (Although it almost sounds like a nice place)! 🙂

Okay now for seven facts you didn’t already know about me:

  • My first big part in theater was Annelle in Steel Magnolias
  • I got Science Student of the Year in 8th grade, my family thought it was a joke
  • I still don’t have a driver’s licence simply because I’ve been too lazy to go to the DMV, therefore I spend a lot of time reading on the bus
  • I am extremely stubborn, like the kind of stubborn that won’t allow me to say sorry first and has to get the last hit kind of stubborn.
  • My dream would be to compete on the show Survivor
  • I’d love to pursue a career in speech writing
  • My favorite part of going to the movies is the trailers, I consider them an art of sorts

Alright, that’s all you’re getting out of me at least for now. 😉 I’m off to let my nominees know and I just want to say thank you to all of those that take the time to read my blog. It means so much to me!liebster-award

Oh and before I sign off I need to thank Lizzie at Bookmark Your Dreams who nominated me for the Liebster Award and I thought I would save you lovely readers from another post on the award and just dedicate an entry to the thanking of my lovely nominator. Lizzie has an incredible blog and what I love most about it is her feistiness. All her emotions run through each post giving it an authentic taste and she most certainly is not afraid of her opinion being heard. She’s a passionate blogger and a fellow book reader so please check out her blog. It’ fun, intriguing and all about books (the best subject ever)! Thank you so very much Lizzie for this nomination, it means so much to me! I often get self conscious of my blogging especially when I encounter really big blogs that seem to have it all together. Readers like you chase my doubt away and keep me blogging. I’ve been so lucky to make great friends like you and others in the blogging community. Also Lizzie, congratulations yourself on your nomination! You are most certainly an up-and-coming blog and I can’t wait to see how it further develops. (Plus, don’t change your blog name I really like it)! 😉

Goodnight everyone and thanks for reading!

The Liebster Award

liebster-awardIt started off as just an average day when I woke up. I crawled out of bed and snuggled with my grandparents poodles and logged on to what has since taken over my life: WordPress.

I saw the bright orange icon at the top of the screen and smiled because it always means good news. I clicked it and realized that it was greater than I expected because it notified me that the lovely Kayla @ The Thousand Lives had nominated me for the Liebster Award. Suddenly, my day didn’t seem so average.

Thank you so much Kayla, it means so much to me that people even read my blog let alone enjoy it. Congratulations yourself on being nominated as you most certainly deserved it!

First for those that are unaware the Liebster Award is supposed to recognize those blogs that are of the up-and-coming sort. (So imagine my blush when I found out that Kayla nominated me)!

Now, the rules are as follows:

  1. Link back the blogger that tagged you
  2. Nominate ten others and answer the questions of the one who tagged you
  3. Ask ten questions for the bloggers you nominate
  4. Let your nominees know of their award

The Questions from Kayla

1. How long did it take you to settle in to your blog (how you wanted to write, how you wanted to lay out your posts, what sort of graphics you wanted to use, what theme to use, etc.)?

I would say it took me about two months to finally find my groove. I finally started organizing my blog, planning out what I wanted to write and designing my blog to better suit my tastes. That in no way means that I don’t need improvements, there are still things that I’m constantly tweaking.

2. How long have you been blogging, and what made you start blogging?

I am fairly new to the blogging world having started May 22nd of this year. It was my mom that said I should blog about books as I’m always finishing books and bugging people to read them too so I can discuss them.

3. Give me a profile of yourself (age, location, job, school, some favorites, etc)?

Alright! I’m 21, I live in Central California (farming county), I work as a Food Service Aide for a high school. Some of my favorite things include: Runts– favorite candy; Pineapple– favorite fruit; Christmas– favorite holiday; Mrs. May– favorite English teacher; Joey– favorite F.R.I.E.N.D.S. character; Newsroom– currently favorite show.

4. What was your best memory in high school?

Performing in the high school play, Blithe Spirit. I played Edith, the maid (but I stole the show) 😉

5. Who inspires you, and why?

My sister Hayley, she is younger than me but so much stronger even though she doesn’t believe it. She enjoys life and I know she will get all that she wants out of it.

6. What are your three favorite books?

This is an unbelievably hard question, but at the top of my head: To Kill a Mockingbird, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and Ella Enchanted.

7. What book has influenced you the most in your life?

To Kill a Mockingbird, it taught me to always look at things with a new perspective.

8. Which character would be your best friend, if they were in the flesh?

Hmmm…probably Lucy from the Chronicles of Narnia as I’m so ready to believe in magic.

9. What is your favorite book to movie adaptation?

Liebster Award (Again) :)

liebster-award I’m really starting to love this whole blogging thing. It makes me so happy and fulfills a sense of purpose. (Am I being over-dramatic)?

So, (getting to the point), the brilliant and talented Sarah Evans absolutely made my day by nominating me for the Liebster Award.

Apparently this award (along with meaning “dearest” in German) recognizes the up-and-coming (no pressure) blogs with less than 200 followers.

Thank you Sarah, it means so much that you would count my blog in this category and congratulations yourself. It’s very obvious that your blog, A Place That Does Not Exist, is most definitely of the up-and-coming sort.

Now of course, there are rules. You can’t act just willy nilly on such matters (even though I try). Rules for nominees are:

1. Thank the Liebster Blog presenter who nominated you and link back to their blog.

2. Post 11 facts (that’s a lot) about yourself, answer the 11 questions you were asked and create 11 questions for your nominees.

3. Nominate 11 blogs who you feel deserve to be noticed and leave a comment on their blog letting them know they have been chosen.

4. Display the Liebster Award logo.

5. No tag backs.

Thank you again Sarah! You put a smile on my face today. (Which is something you have in common with chocolate).

Alright ladies and gents, shall we dive into this together?

11 Personal Facts:

jonasa1. I am listening to the Jonas Brothers first album as I write this (reminding me of my early teen days so no judgement).

2. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney film (but that’s pretty predictable considering that gorgeous library beckons all book lovers).

3. I’m writing a sequel to Peter Pan. It’s set 10 years after Wendy left Neverland, and Peter, missing her terribly, leaves to visit her. Midflight however, he ages 10 years and is stuck in London with Wendy.

4. I’m writing another novel, but I can’t share what it is about just yet (just that it is epic).

5. I was awarded Science Student of the Year in junior high even though I detest the subject. (DETEST IT)!

wind6. I love the movie, Gone with the Wind, even though I hate the ending

7. I always write my blog posts on paper before typing them out. (I know– weird).

8. I truly believe that the Harry Potter series is THE best series ever made. I can not be convinced otherwise.

9. I’m thinking of dying my hair brown but am conflicted only for the fact that I would have to change my blog title.

10. I LOVE going to the movies! I have a huge respect for cinema and love everything about the movie experience– from the popcorn to the trailers. (Okay, mostly the popcorn).

eggs11. The first thing I learned how to cook was scrambled eggs– and it continues to be the only thing I know how to cook. (Sad).

11 Questions from Sarah:

1. Gadget Geek or Technophobe? Great question, I’m a little bit of both, probably more gadget geek than technophobe. I love my laptop, phone, and Playstation; and am currently saving money for a tablet. However at the same time I am frightened how far we are taking technology, taking Siri for example. Disney channel showed me with its original movie, Smart House, that Siri has the potential to be dangerous (and I always trust my Disney sources).

2. Who’s your favorite author or movie director? Well, even though I adore and love many authors, my favorite would have to be J.K. Rowling.

3. What’s the best book you’ve read this year? So far, The Fault in Our Stars. It spoke to me on so many levels.

4. Favorite band? Augustana– adore their music.

5. What’s something embarrassing that happened to you recently? Cleaning my room. I was so embarrassed that I had let it get that bad. (It was a ‘bad’ that you can not even comprehend).

6. Road trip or Airplane? Road trip even though I have always wanted to fly, I love long road trips! Leaves a lot of time for thinking.

7. Who is your hero or idol? I don’t necessarily have one however I do admire Demi Lovato as I have someone close to me going through the same struggles. She keeps her head up despite of everything and it’s encouraging.

8. What did you want to be when you grew up, when you were a kid? An actress, that feeling fo giving it your all in a performance is unmatched.

9. Name something you do when you’re anxious. I read. It is the BEST way to forget your troubles.

10. Name something you do when you’re angry. I cry– to my humiliation. I can’t help it I have bad reactions to certain situations. If I’m dealing with a sad situation I smile or even laugh. (Go ahead and think I’m horrible now).

11. Name something you do when you’re happy. Well usually when I’m happy I’m inspired so I channel that inspiration into creative energy– writing and acting.
