The Need to Finish

finishHello readers, fellow book lovers, brilliant beings! I need to ask you all a question of the utmost importance.

Would you call a person weird if that person was determined to finish a novel they hated? What would you say if they then went further and stubbornly read a whole series they didn’t enjoy one bit?

Yes, we are talking about me. I have a serious stubborn streak (which I hope isn’t too obvious) that fills me with this dire need to not only finish novels I hate, but a whole series that I can’t stand. What’s my diagnosis?

I recently read Marked by P.C. and Kristin Cast. I was very open with my opinion on it in which I stated that it was offensive and awful. While it might be normal to finish a novel you don’t like for the sake of a review, I don’t think it’s quite ‘normal’ to finish the series. That’s right, the novel I stated was a cheap gimmick was only the first of many novels in a series that I continued to read.

I didn’t like them.

They only got worse as I went on.

I could have been reading GREAT (or even good) novels during that time.

But none of those thoughts stopped me, I simply could not fight the urge to finish. What’s funny is this is not an accurate representation of my life. In life, I’m perfectly fine not finishing things and procrastinate on each and every assignment before me. So why, when it comes to reading do I have to finish novels even though they are awful?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated and once again, thank you for reading. Have a lovely evening!
