The Versatile Blogger Award

versatileblogger I have to say I had a terrific day. Yesterday in 109 degree weather the power went out, so that of course meant no air conditioning. After several miserable hours the power finally came back on around 12:30am but it was still difficult to go to sleep therefore I was NOT looking forward to work in the morning.

Well, I woke up and saw I had a voicemail from my lovely boss and I listened to it still half asleep and discovered that school was canceled because of the previous day’s power outage! I didn’t have to go in to work!!!

I simply didn’t think my day could get any better, but it did! After a cool shower and breakfast I logged on to my favorite website to check out the blogging community. Low and behold I found out that I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger award by the oh so lovely Alyssa @ The Knee Deep Life. This blogger is incredibly talented and witty. Her blog is about crossing items off her bucket list and it is an enjoyment to read. Her posts inspire me to be active in life from the big things like sky diving to the little things like staying up all night. Please check out her blog, I beg of you! You’ll be absolutely enchanted!

Thank you so much Aylssa. You are such an inspiring person and I look forward to reading your posts everyday (thank goodness you’re back from you’re two hiatus) so it’s very flattering that you consider my blog award worthy. Congratulations yourself on the nomination I can’t wait to see how you’re blog further develops!

According to the rules that go along with acceptance of the award I must nominate 15 deserving bloggers and reveal 7 facts about me that you didn’t already know. (Yikes).

My nominees are as follows (just to be fair I wanted to nominate new people, so to my nominees of the Liebster award please know that I absolutely adore your blogs I’m simply trying to shine light on other blogs this time):

  • Kayla @ The Thousand Lives— her passion for books shines through every post
  • Suni @ Getting Rid of Boredom— for doing a thorough job at keeping boredom at bay
  • Shelf-Made Girl— She keeps her blog light with her humor and will make an excellent English teacher
  • Katy @ A Blighted One— she just started a really cool feature in which guest bloggers share their stories of who influenced them to read, and you can still sign up to share yours
  • Mini @ The Skeptical Reader— for keeping her blog eclectic
  • Jessie @ The Word Nerd— for thought-provoking reviews
  • Lifeofafemalebibliophile— for mixing the informative with personal reflection like a true pro

I know that’s only half but apparently I follow many blogs that do not like to accept awards so I had to delete many from the list. I hope I’m not thrown in blogger jail for this. (Although it almost sounds like a nice place)! 🙂

Okay now for seven facts you didn’t already know about me:

  • My first big part in theater was Annelle in Steel Magnolias
  • I got Science Student of the Year in 8th grade, my family thought it was a joke
  • I still don’t have a driver’s licence simply because I’ve been too lazy to go to the DMV, therefore I spend a lot of time reading on the bus
  • I am extremely stubborn, like the kind of stubborn that won’t allow me to say sorry first and has to get the last hit kind of stubborn.
  • My dream would be to compete on the show Survivor
  • I’d love to pursue a career in speech writing
  • My favorite part of going to the movies is the trailers, I consider them an art of sorts

Alright, that’s all you’re getting out of me at least for now. 😉 I’m off to let my nominees know and I just want to say thank you to all of those that take the time to read my blog. It means so much to me!liebster-award

Oh and before I sign off I need to thank Lizzie at Bookmark Your Dreams who nominated me for the Liebster Award and I thought I would save you lovely readers from another post on the award and just dedicate an entry to the thanking of my lovely nominator. Lizzie has an incredible blog and what I love most about it is her feistiness. All her emotions run through each post giving it an authentic taste and she most certainly is not afraid of her opinion being heard. She’s a passionate blogger and a fellow book reader so please check out her blog. It’ fun, intriguing and all about books (the best subject ever)! Thank you so very much Lizzie for this nomination, it means so much to me! I often get self conscious of my blogging especially when I encounter really big blogs that seem to have it all together. Readers like you chase my doubt away and keep me blogging. I’ve been so lucky to make great friends like you and others in the blogging community. Also Lizzie, congratulations yourself on your nomination! You are most certainly an up-and-coming blog and I can’t wait to see how it further develops. (Plus, don’t change your blog name I really like it)! 😉

Goodnight everyone and thanks for reading!

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 12

15-Day-ChallengeIf you haven’t heard of this challenge by now then you should know it’s so much fun! It was created by the blogger of Good Books, Good Wine and has really been causing me to think of how I run this here old book blog. Now, on to today’s challenge!

Day 12: How do you fight blogger fatigue?

Honestly? I would welcome some blogger fatigue at this point. I’ve become somewhat obsessed with blogging to the point where certain family members are starting to raise questions. I tell them they don’t understand, how could they? They don’t have a book blog, they don’t know what it’s like to wake up and see that someone LIKED your post! No, I tell them, you don’t understand.

I spend hours upon hours on WordPress posting, tweaking, reading, commenting and just about everything else you can do on this lovely website.

When I’m not on WordPress, I’m at my desk writing posts by hand, brainstorming reading related ideas.

When I’m not at my desk, I’m talking about my blog, reading for my blog, asking for blogging advice.

They said it was hobby. They said it was a side activity for fun. They said.

Blogging has become a BIG, HUGE, GINORMOUS part of my life and you know what, I’m not ashamed to admit it. Blogging makes me happy, blogging about books makes me happier.

So I guess what I am trying to say in a roundabout way is that I would welcome blogging fatigue at this point (or at least my family would welcome it)!

What about you? Do you experience blogging fatigue? If so, how do combat it? Let me know by commenting below and happy reading!

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 8

15-Day-ChallengeYay! We are back on track after my awful slacking off yesterday. (Please say you forgive me). It’s day 8 of this challenge which was created by the talented blogger of Good Books, Good Wine. Shall we get to it?

Day 8: Quick! Write 15 bullet points of things that appeal to you on blogs

Bear with me, I have to do this quickly!

1. Clear menu– if I am looking for something specific I want to find it fast (due to my impatient nature).

2. Book blogs: I like to see your reviews in one place, organized by alphabetical order

3. Readability– I don’t want to struggle to read your blog (which reminds me, I need to make an appointment with the eye doctor).

4. Images– they break up the text which can be overwhelming in a long post

5. Humor– I want to enjoy what I am reading

6. Top posts and pages widget– that way I don’t have to scroll to see popular posts

7. Quality– I want to see your passion through the post

8. Posts title– To the point please, don’t leave us guessing

9. Comments– it’s always appealing to see a blogger who replies to their comments

10. Updating regularly

11. Supports other blogs

12. Explains about the author behind the blog

13. Stays true to one subject instead of rambling about many others

14. Organized layout

15. Great attitude– it’s appealing to find a blogger that feels like a real person

Whew! Believe or not, I wrote all 15 points in just under two minutes. (I’m pretty proud of myself). What appeals to you in a blog? What doesn’t? I want to hear what you have to say (in case I need to change anything)! So comment below and happy reading!

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 7

15-Day-ChallengeFirst I have to apologize to all of you, I should have posted the day 7 challenge yesterday but I recently got a new job and it persists in getting in the way of blogging (how rude, right?). I hope you will all forgive me (please, please, please) and I promise not to slack off ever again (cross my heart, but I don’t really hope to die)!

On to the challenge! It’s day 7 (sort of, not really) of the lovely challenge which was created by the blogger of Good Books, Good Wine.

Day 7: Talk about your blogging quirks

Quirks are peculiarities for those of you that didn’t know and yes, I have many (MANY) quirks. Lucky for me though I only have to talk about my blogging quirks (otherwise we would be here all day). My top ten blogging quirks are:

  1. I write every post on paper before typing it up. I find that I write more creatively this way.
  2. I proof read a post exactly three times (though it doesn’t seem like it sometimes).
  3. I write my posts in purple ink. (It makes me happy).
  4. I reread my posts every day because I never seem satisfied with them.
  5. I’m constantly looking at different blog backgrounds even though I never change it.
  6. Being recently new to the blogging experience I have the WordPress help page book marked (which is used quite often).
  7. I keep at least five ideas for posts on a notecard
  8. I always (ALWAYS) forget to categorize and tag my posts.
  9. I write my posts listening to Kelly Clarkson.
  10. I type my posts listening to Augustana.

Am I quirky enough (a rhetorical question)? I would love to compare blogging quirks with all of you so please comment below and happy reading!

15 Day Book Blogger Challenge: Day 3

15-Day-ChallengeIf you don’t already know (in which case, welcome to my blog I hope you enjoy it) I am participating in the 15 Day Book Blogger Challenge created by the awesome blogger of Good Books, Good Wine. It’s day three of the challenge so let’s dive in!

Day 3: Who are your blogging BFFs?

I’m fairly new to the blogging experience and shy to add on top of that so I can’t say have a BFF per se. However, if I had to pick a blogging buddy it would be gudbyeboredom over at Getting Rid of Boredom. She was the first one to nominate me for an award and thus the first to inspire confidence in myself; and I always wake up eager to read her brilliant blog posts. (Plus, we just added each other on goodreads, which in my opinion is the start to a beautiful friendship)!

If gudbyeboredom would not like to claim me as a blogging buddy I would more than understand (I mean, I am pretty eccentric) but she truly is an awesome person and everyone reading this should check out her blog.

I also consider my readers to be blogging buddies (and no I’m not just saying that due to my lack of friends). Even if you’re just glancing through I consider you a friend for just stopping by! (Does that make me creepy)?

Do you have any blogging BFF’s (or maybe even, BFFF’s)? If so let me know so I can steal them away with my charm (yeah right) and have a great day!
