Spread the Word: Alyssa @ The Knee Deep Life

spreadthewordIt’s Saturday and you know what that means! Spread the Word! This feature was inspired by A Bookish Heart with her Bookish Friends feature. This is a weekly feature that I have started to shine the spotlight on other bloggers that have caught my eye. There are so many great bloggers out there that keep me giggling or thinking with their blog posts and it’s gotten to the point where I want to shout it to the world so that others can discover their greatness too.

I don’t ask them questions or anything like that as it can be time-consuming to the featured blogger who is busy…blogging. So instead I just go through their blog with a fine tooth comb and learn everything I can to share it all with you. Ready? Good! Excited? Me too!

Today I’ve decided to spotlight a blogger that I’ve admired for a quite a while now. She has a distinct voice in the world of blogging and always provides food for thought with her inspiring posts. She writes about bucket lists and accomplishing our wildest dreams.

She is Alyssa @ The Knee Deep Life

One of my favorite things about Alyssa is her outlook on life. She reminds me to enjoy every aspect life has to offer which I often forget to do in my everyday settings. It’s so easy to get involved with pettiness but life is too short for that. There’s so much to see and so much to appreciate. Alyssa explains all this on her about page (much better than I can)…

about kdl

It’s like a breath of fresh air reading a new post on Alyssa’s blog. She encourages and inspires with her bucket list items. Here’s an example of what her To Do Bucket list looks like: (doesn’t zip lining sound amazing?)

bucket list

Alyssa includes big things like ‘Ride on an elephant’ (also something I would love to do) but she also includes small things like ‘spend an entire day barefoot’ (something I’ve done many times). She reminds us that the little things in life are just as worth wild as the big things. Like Alyssa said life is wide, but only if we make it so.

She also offers humor in almost every post. Some of my favorites are…

baguette

dem apples

cake or steak

See? How can you not love this woman?! She’s enlightening and funny! Those are the kind of people that change the world, just saying!

She also draws great dinosaur pictures and I love dinosaurs, so that scores about 50 points in my book.

Here a couple facts I’ve gathered from reading Alyssa’s blog:

  • Her bucket list blog started from a simple Senior Psych homework assignment
  • One of her friends met Randy Jackson once
  • Why anyone would deep-fry a Twinkie blows her mind
  • Seen Zoolander approximately 15 times
  • The best way to make her laugh is to put her in speed boat
  • She believes in living life knee deep
  • Her twitter name is @kneedeeplife

So what are you waiting for? Check out Alyssa’s blog at The Knee Deep Life and add a piece of sunshine to your reader.

The Shine On Award

awardsImagine my delight when I found out that Jasmine from Flip That Page (head over there immediately, you won’t regret it) had nominated me for the Shine On award.

I was touched that after my abrupt absence that the blogging world is still so incredibly supportive. So thank you Jasmine for restoring my confidence in myself as a book blogger. It means so much that you thought of me and congratulations yourself on receiving the award.

From what I can tell there’s no strict rules that comes with this award (thankfully as I have a NaNoWriMo novel to write) so with that I would simply like to nominate one other blogger that shines every day.

Alyssa at The Knee Deep Life is such an inspiring blogger. She brings light to my day with her talks of accomplishing our bucket list items and living our wildest dreams. She is also one of the nicest bloggers I’ve had the pleasure of encountering and so with that, I would like to officially nominate Alyssa at The Knee Deep Life. It’s official Alyssa.

Thank you everyone for reading and supporting. Or at least clicking the read button. It all makes me happy and inspires me to keep going. Have a wonderful evening and actually have a terrific November. It’s going to be swell.

Bloggin’ Recap

bloggin'recap

It’s Sunday, the beginning of a new week, so that means it’s time for a Bloggin’ Recap. A feature inspired by A Bookish Heart. Every Sunday I’ll get the chance to tell you what’s going on in my life, what I’ve posted for the week, what to expect in the upcoming week and posts I enjoyed from other bloggers.

In the Real World

I’ve been pretty busy this week with work and making preparations for the play. I’m so frightened that I’m not going to be a good director that it’s distracting me from blogging and reading. (Hence the late night posts). I’ll spend all my time looking up directing techniques and wallowing in my doubt and insecurities. This Sunday however I feel renewed. I’m going to stop thinking about HOW I want to direct and just for lack of better terms DO IT. I’m going to channel my inner steam engine and repeat to myself “I thinking can-I think I can-I think I can.”

I’ve just started my two-week venture of house sitting for my aunt. It’s actually house sitting and pet sitting as she has two adorable dogs and one loveable cat. It’s pretty much the best job ever as I LOVE dogs, just the sight of them makes me smile. So for two whole weeks I get to pretend like these dogs are mine and we are having so much fun! Their names are Sugar and K.C. Sugar is a sweet heart, she will sit in your lap all day and she LOVES to be brushed! As soon as I take out the brush she jumps right into my lap. K.C. is an old geezer and people like to say he grumpy but I’ve never had any problems with him. He can still jump when I make my way over to the bag of treats so I know he’s still got some snap in him.

I published my 100th post this week which was pretty exciting. It wasn’t particularly great or anything, just another 30 Day Book Challenge post but I stared at it for a long time before clicking the publish button, I don’t know if that makes me silly but I don’t care. I guess a part of me never expected to make it this far but the people in the blogging world have been so supportive  that I’ve been inspired everyday. So… thank you, ALL of you for writing wonderful posts and taking the time to read mine! 🙂

How was your week?

What I’ve Posted This Week

I’ve still managed to keep up with the challenge, but only just barely:

Along with the challenge I’ve posted:

Posts to Look Forward to this Week:

  • Who Were You in English Class?
  • The (should be) Punishments for Misusing a Book

Posts from Blogging Buddies that I’ve Enjoyed:

That’s the end of today’s recap, what was this week like for you? Read anything good? Do anything fun? Share it below and happy reading!

Today I’ve decided to spotlight a blogger that I’ve gotten quite close to in a short amount of time. When I first discovered her blog I was excited by how much we seemed to have in common. She shared my love for the same kind of books, she was passionate about the same things and she’s not majoring in English like me (which seems to be rare in the world of book bloggers)!

She is Becky @ Blogs-of-a-Bookaholic

I was browsing blogs under the book review category on WordPress when I saw a review she wrote for The Help by Kathryn Stockett which had me nodding my head eagerly in agreement. I clicked to learn more about this blogger that seemed to think the same way I did. After reading her about page I knew I had found another favorite blog.

hfkjfa;kj;

She didn’t try to make it seem like she was anything more than just an average girl who liked to read books. It was appealing, especially to me as this is how I feel about my blog: I’m still learning. I’m not the best writer, I’m not the smartest and there will be things in books that go over my head but like Becky, I’m here to blog about the books that I read. It’s as plain and simple as that and I loved that Becky told us so in plain words.

ufiuytoiqua

One of the things I love most about Becky’s blog is that it shows her eclectic tastes. She read a wide variety of books instead of focusing on only one genre like young adult, classics or the ever popular western sci-fy historical fiction genre.  She has the likes of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte to Inkheart by Cornelia Funke on her to-be-read list. Her reading taste knows no bounds and I admire that. This isn’t to say that focusing on one genre is bad, I myself as a reader like to have a broad range therefore I appreciate when someone shares this interest.

Becky does not bow to peer pressure. She will always give her honest opinion of a book even if it means criticizing a book that is extremely popular– like The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. This was a book magnetized by the movie, everyone was proclaiming its brilliance. I haven’t read the book yet so I don’t know if any of it is justified but Becky definitely didn’t think so and she wasn’t afraid one bit of explaining how she felt. It’s hard to put your thoughts into words when you know they are not with the majority. You start questioning your opinion as if an opinion could be wrong, but not Becky. Becky will always let us know what she thinks whether it be good or bad and I rank that as a very important blogging aspect.

Becky runs her own original meme. She calls is Quoting the Quill and it originated as a celebration of her 100th post! I know you’ve already surpassed this milestone Becky but CONGRATULATIONS! She runs this feature every other Wednesday and with it posts a certain quote that inspires her; the most recent quote was, “On the shelf or just opened, a book was all possibility, a wondrous box of paper that could contain anything.”  Here is why it inspired her:

jhgf

Becky is very active in the blogging community. It seems like every time I publish a post the orange icon appears moments later to say Becky has read it by either liking it or commenting. As a blogger it makes me happy to have a reader that enjoys coming back to my blog. Then I discovered that is wasn’t just my blog but many others. It seemed everywhere I went Becky had been there too and left her mark. She takes the time to let the reader know that she’s been there which is no easy task when you do that for a bajillion blogs. But she does and it makes her better blogger for it. After all, how do you expect to get readers if you aren’t willing to read other blogs? Becky knows the answer to that.

Here are a couple of random facts I’ve gathered from reading Becky’s blog:

  • She’s a big Sarah Dessen fan
  • Her favorite classic is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  • Her favorite side character is Luna Lovegood
  • She’s in love with Aragorn from Lord of the Rings
  • She’s a fellow Land Before Time fan
  • She loves dinosaurs
  • Believes her daemon would be a cat

I urge every one to check out Becky’s blog, Blogs-of-a-Bookaholic! You’ll find a blogger full of personality who loves books and has a unique voice in the blogging world.

The Versatile Blogger Award

versatileblogger I have to say I had a terrific day. Yesterday in 109 degree weather the power went out, so that of course meant no air conditioning. After several miserable hours the power finally came back on around 12:30am but it was still difficult to go to sleep therefore I was NOT looking forward to work in the morning.

Well, I woke up and saw I had a voicemail from my lovely boss and I listened to it still half asleep and discovered that school was canceled because of the previous day’s power outage! I didn’t have to go in to work!!!

I simply didn’t think my day could get any better, but it did! After a cool shower and breakfast I logged on to my favorite website to check out the blogging community. Low and behold I found out that I was nominated for the Versatile Blogger award by the oh so lovely Alyssa @ The Knee Deep Life. This blogger is incredibly talented and witty. Her blog is about crossing items off her bucket list and it is an enjoyment to read. Her posts inspire me to be active in life from the big things like sky diving to the little things like staying up all night. Please check out her blog, I beg of you! You’ll be absolutely enchanted!

Thank you so much Aylssa. You are such an inspiring person and I look forward to reading your posts everyday (thank goodness you’re back from you’re two hiatus) so it’s very flattering that you consider my blog award worthy. Congratulations yourself on the nomination I can’t wait to see how you’re blog further develops!

According to the rules that go along with acceptance of the award I must nominate 15 deserving bloggers and reveal 7 facts about me that you didn’t already know. (Yikes).

My nominees are as follows (just to be fair I wanted to nominate new people, so to my nominees of the Liebster award please know that I absolutely adore your blogs I’m simply trying to shine light on other blogs this time):

  • Kayla @ The Thousand Lives— her passion for books shines through every post
  • Suni @ Getting Rid of Boredom— for doing a thorough job at keeping boredom at bay
  • Shelf-Made Girl— She keeps her blog light with her humor and will make an excellent English teacher
  • Katy @ A Blighted One— she just started a really cool feature in which guest bloggers share their stories of who influenced them to read, and you can still sign up to share yours
  • Mini @ The Skeptical Reader— for keeping her blog eclectic
  • Jessie @ The Word Nerd— for thought-provoking reviews
  • Lifeofafemalebibliophile— for mixing the informative with personal reflection like a true pro

I know that’s only half but apparently I follow many blogs that do not like to accept awards so I had to delete many from the list. I hope I’m not thrown in blogger jail for this. (Although it almost sounds like a nice place)! 🙂

Okay now for seven facts you didn’t already know about me:

  • My first big part in theater was Annelle in Steel Magnolias
  • I got Science Student of the Year in 8th grade, my family thought it was a joke
  • I still don’t have a driver’s licence simply because I’ve been too lazy to go to the DMV, therefore I spend a lot of time reading on the bus
  • I am extremely stubborn, like the kind of stubborn that won’t allow me to say sorry first and has to get the last hit kind of stubborn.
  • My dream would be to compete on the show Survivor
  • I’d love to pursue a career in speech writing
  • My favorite part of going to the movies is the trailers, I consider them an art of sorts

Alright, that’s all you’re getting out of me at least for now. 😉 I’m off to let my nominees know and I just want to say thank you to all of those that take the time to read my blog. It means so much to me!liebster-award

Oh and before I sign off I need to thank Lizzie at Bookmark Your Dreams who nominated me for the Liebster Award and I thought I would save you lovely readers from another post on the award and just dedicate an entry to the thanking of my lovely nominator. Lizzie has an incredible blog and what I love most about it is her feistiness. All her emotions run through each post giving it an authentic taste and she most certainly is not afraid of her opinion being heard. She’s a passionate blogger and a fellow book reader so please check out her blog. It’ fun, intriguing and all about books (the best subject ever)! Thank you so very much Lizzie for this nomination, it means so much to me! I often get self conscious of my blogging especially when I encounter really big blogs that seem to have it all together. Readers like you chase my doubt away and keep me blogging. I’ve been so lucky to make great friends like you and others in the blogging community. Also Lizzie, congratulations yourself on your nomination! You are most certainly an up-and-coming blog and I can’t wait to see how it further develops. (Plus, don’t change your blog name I really like it)! 😉

Goodnight everyone and thanks for reading!
