Good evening fellow readers! So of course I found a new challenge to participate in the hopes of proving myself better than the last. I picked up this challenge from The Chronicles of Radiya and very much look forward to 30 consecutive (hopefully, gulp) days of blogging.
Day 8: Most Overrated Book
When I read this one book immediately came to mind but I recently did a review on it so I was a hesitant to talk about it again but at the end of the day, I have to go with my gut.
My gut says Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis.
The reason for this versus other books (like 50 Shades of Grey) is because with other books I knew what I was getting myself into but with Prince Caspian I was misled.
This novel is apart of The Chronicles of Narnia, not only a GREAT series but a TIMELESS series. They are famously known as one of the greatest children series ever and Prince Caspian is one of the more famous ones.
So, logically, I went in with very high hopes and came out severely disappointed. I have no idea why this novel did so well because it’s literally 100 pages of nothing happening!
The children get called back to Narnia. Prince Caspian learns his uncle is evil (which he should have seen coming). The children find Prince Caspian. Peter and Evil Uncle fight for one minute. End of novel.
I’m not even exaggerating, in fact I wish I was because I love C.S. Lewis and I wanted to love this novel but I couldn’t. I can’t love a novel with zero character development and zero action (and a super whiny and annoying character– Susan).
So if you want to read the Chronicles of Narnia, don’t start with Prince Caspian. The series truly is wonderful and I don’t want your first impression to fall flat.

I’m going to have to say the Twilight series. When I read it years ago I thought it was okay, but it’s definitely not the greatest love story ever, like some people seem to think.
Oh yeah, the Twilight series are undoubtedly overrated – and I say this not because they’re hugely successful and everyone’s read them (it seems), but because the writing IN the novels is really subpar! I think the ideas and the characters really weren’t that bad (except for Bella, who’s so pathetic I cringe when I face what I believe to be similarities between her character and myself). It’s a teen series about romance and vampires so one can’t expect something earth-shattering, I suppose. But like you said, some people think it’s “the greatest love story ever” which is really absurd (in my humble opinion!). I mean really, I think Sherlock and Watson have a better love story… but that’s just me.

Exactly, it’s a typical teen paranormal romance, and I think it accomplished that, but greatest love story ever? Not even close. Shelock and Watson’s definitely have a better love story, TEN TIMES better!
What’s really sad is I when I first read Twilight I enjoyed them for what they were, mediocre but that was fine. Sometimes its nice to read something easy but then this hype surrounded it and I found myself turning against when I actually used to like it. Sometimes fandoms can be overwhelming. (But never Harry Potter’s fandom)! 😉
Most definitely not the greatest series ever! I too thought it was okay but was so confused by the hype that surrounded it. It was crazy!
GAHHHHHHH I hate Susan!!! She’s the most annoying CS Lewis character EVAR. But, I think we’re in the majority for thinking so, so that’s a good thing. On the other hand, I recall mostly liking Prince Caspian, but it certainly wasn’t ANYTHING special or exciting. I think the reason why I liked it so much was because it’s the last time we see The Pevensie Children as a main focus and all 4 of them there (though I hate Susan and I joke with a friend about Peter being Peter the Magnificent Ass) – I guess, in other words, I’m not ready to let the Pevensie kids go yet! But I see you’re reading The Silver Chair now which I recall REALLY liking – it’s a bit darker and different than the others, so I hope you enjoy it! Great post, thanks for sharing 🙂
I get that, when I found out at the end of Prince Caspian that it was possible to be too old to come to Narnia a little place in my heart broke a little. Grown ups never get to have fun and that wasn’t a big deal when I was younger but now it’s really starting to bug me! I’m almost done with The Silver Chair and I really like it, C.S. Lewis has definitely redeemed himself. Thanks for reading! 🙂
While Prince Caspian wasn’t my favourite of the Narnia books, it wasn’t my least favourite either. I won’t say anything specific or which book because you haven’t finished the series but ahhhh… frustration.
Uh oh, now I have to hurry through the series to know what you’re talking about! Haha!
